Bagmati Mega Campaign Marks 13 Years with Nationwide Drive to Plant 13,000 Saplings

Kathmandu, June 2025 — As the Bagmati Mega Campaign proudly marks its 13th anniversary, the organizers have launched an ambitious nationwide initiative to plant 13,000 saplings in celebration of this milestone.

Started 13 years ago as a grassroots movement to clean and protect the sacred Bagmati River, the campaign has now evolved into Nepal’s longest-running environmental effort, uniting thousands of volunteers, civic organizations, and youth groups every Saturday. Over the years, it has become a symbol of collective responsibility, environmental awareness, and cultural pride.

In honor of completing 13 impactful years, the campaign’s new tree plantation drive aims not only to green the banks of the Bagmati River but also to extend its environmental message across the country. Organizers hope to inspire communities nationwide to participate by planting trees in schools, public spaces, and riverbanks, emphasizing the critical importance of reforestation in combating climate change and restoring biodiversity.

“The campaign has gained remarkable momentum,” organizers shared, adding that anyone from any corner of the country can join this movement. The call to action highlights that environmental stewardship is not limited to Kathmandu or the Bagmati basin but is a shared national responsibility.

As the Bagmati Mega Campaign enters its 14th year, it continues to stand as a testament to the power of sustained collective action — demonstrating how dedicated volunteers and supportive communities can transform an idea into a nationwide environmental force.
