Bagmati Clean-Up campaign reaches 638th week, 2.2 metric tonnes of garbage collected

Kathmandu, August 2, 2025 —
The Bagmati Clean-Up Campaign collected 2.2 metric tonnes of garbage today from the Bagmati River at Sinamangal and its surrounding areas along the Bagmati riverside in Kathmandu. The campaign, which began on May 18, 2013, reached its 638th consecutive week today.

On the occasion, Dr. Mala Kharel emphasized the importance of keeping the river clean, stating:

“No one should pollute the river, as it is the right of every person to live in a healthy environment.”

Similarly, campaigner Mr. Khagendra Karki remarked that the Bagmati River is becoming cleaner due to the collective support from all sectors of society.

Mr. Prakash Aryal, Project Chief of the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of Bagmati Civilization (HPCIDBC), called for renewed commitment:

“The clean-up campaign must move forward with fresh momentum, and the people of Kathmandu Valley should take greater responsibility for the cleanliness and conservation of the Bagmati River.
